Protist seasonality at station LTER-MC, as revealed by the relative abundance of reads obtained by High Throughput Sequencing (HTS)-metabarcoding using two different 18S rDNA sequence fragment, V4 and V9. For each protist group, read abundance on different sampling dates was normalized over the total abundance of that group, in order to show the marked differences in seasonal patterns among groups. With the exception of a few cases, V4 and V9 gave similar results. From Piredda et al. (2017b), by permission of Oxford University Press.
