Senem Önen Tarantini joins Nature Conservation as a new Subject Editor

17 July 2026

Senem Önen Tarantini is a marine ecologist and researcher at the University of Salento, Italy, with extensive experience in marine biodiversity research, benthic ecology, and habitat conservation.  Her research focuses on marine macroalgae, seagrass ecosystems, coralligenous habitats, biodiversity monitoring, ecological assessment, and the development of evidence-based approaches that support habitat conservation and restoration planning.

Alongside her ecological research, she actively contributes to European Commission-funded projects and international expert networks addressing biodiversity observation, FAIR data, open science, and the science–policy interface. Her work focuses on improving how biodiversity data are collected, harmonised, shared, and translated into scientific evidence that supports conservation planning, environmental management, and policy development at European and global levels.

“I am pleased to join Nature Conservation as a Subject Editor. Over the years, my work has increasingly focused on how marine biodiversity knowledge can move beyond individual studies and contribute to broader conservation processes. I hope to support research that is ecologically sound, clearly communicated, and useful for scientists, practitioners, and decision-makers working to protect biodiversity.”

You can find her on LinkedIn and Instagram.

On behalf of BDJ, we would like to express our sincere gratitude, and we look forward to our future collaborations!
